Teeth Whitening
A simple change that can have a big impact.
We offer two types of whitening: temporary bleaching and permanent whitening. With temporary at-home bleaching, we create trays for you to wear at home that put teeth (but not gums) in contact with bleaching solution.
This process is relatively inexpensive and offers results in about 5–10 sessions, though the degree of whitening can vary from person to person. Monthly touch-ups are required to maintain the white shade.
For faster results, we also offer Sapphire ® whitening, which gives you a brighter, whiter smile in under an hour. After preparing your lips and gums, the clinician applies the Sapphire ® gel, which works with the Sapphire ® light to gently penetrate your teeth, breaking up stains and discoloration safely, effectively, and very quickly. This procedure costs more, but for many patients, the immediate results are worth it.
Some teeth cannot be whitened with a bleaching procedure, and in those cases we recommend veneers, which are porcelain laminates that cover the teeth like a glove. Veneers can whiten even the darkest teeth, and the shade can be as light as you like. The results last up to 20 years. See the Veneers section for more details.
When supervised by a dentist, whitening will not damage gums or tooth structure, and these procedures can help give you a brighter, more youthful smile.
Porcelain Veneers
An instant smile makeover.
Along with crowns, laminate veneers are one of our most popular and successful procedures. They’re porcelain covers permanently bonded to the front of a tooth to improve color, shape, and position.
Veneers are successfully used to treat teeth that are chipped, discolored, have gaps, or are otherwise malformed or improperly positioned.
Each veneer is custom-designed to fit over each tooth. Resin cements are used to permanently attach them to the tooth and are cured using an argon curing laser, which helps create a stronger, longer-lasting bond. The process is simple and relatively painless, and can generally be performed without anesthesia.
We pride ourselves on our natural-looking, stain-resistant veneers, which can last 20 years or more and make a dramatic and immediate difference in your smile, appearance and confidence.
We also offer LUMINEERS BY CERINATE which are a terrific cosmetic solution for permanently stained, chipped, discolored, misaligned teeth, or even to revitalize old crown and bridgework. LUMINEERS BY CERINATE is a porcelain veneer that can be made as thin as a contact lens and is placed over existing teeth without requiring painful removal of sensitive tooth structure (unlike traditional veneers.)
LUMINEERS can only be made from patented Cerinate porcelain. This revolutionary porcelain is crafted through a proprietary process unavailable anywhere other than the Cerinate Smile Design Studios owned by Den-Mat Corporation. In just two or three visits to the dentist, LUMINEERS provides a custom-made smile clinically proven to last up to 20 years.
LUMINEERS BY CERINATE is painless because they don’t require removal of painful tooth structure. Dentists apply these contact lens-thin “smile shapers” to teeth without any grinding or shaving, transforming misshapen, worn teeth into a naturally beautiful smile that looks perfect for every individual. LUMINEERS can even be placed on porcelain bridgework and crowns with the new Revitalize Kit available from your dentist.LUMINEERS BY CERINATE is the best of both worlds – ultra-thin, yet super strong for a radiant smile that resists any cracking, which can damage restorations. LUMINEERS are completely reversible. Get your perfect smile today!
Porcelain Onlays
Restoring the look and feel of natural teeth.
Like a crown, a porcelain onlay is used when a tooth is too damaged or decayed for a filling or other procedure. It’s similar to a crown, in that it covers and protects the tooth surface. But where a crown covers the entire tooth, the onlay covers only the cusps and biting surface.
Onlays are designed to match the natural bite and feel of natural teeth. Unlike fillings, which leave a tooth only half as strong when completed, an onlay restores it to its original strength.
A nice thing about porcelain onlays is that they match the tooth color, so the restoration looks natural and healthy. With proper care, porcelain onlays can last for years.
In our office we offer CEREC 3D, which is an in office CAD/CAM system used to create your porcelain onlays while you wait. The entire process takes less than an hour.
Laser Gum Contouring
Make a big difference in just a few minutes.
A great smile isn’t just about great teeth. Some people have too much gum tissue (a “gummy” smile), or their gums may be uneven (a “crooked” smile). Either way, gum surgery can make a big difference.
“Gummy” smiles are caused by an overgrowth of gum tissue, which dominates the mouth, making the teeth seem almost secondary in appearance. This can be due to heredity or caused by certain health problems or medications.
“Crooked” smiles can be caused by uneven gums as well as crooked teeth. Gum surgery, together with dental procedures, can turn a crooked smile into a beautiful one.
In our office we use dental lasers to perform gum plastic surgery, this vaporizes unnecessary or unsightly gum tissue with pinpoint accuracy. Most procedures take just a few minutes, and patients can usually return to work and normal activities the same day.

Patient Testimonials
Periodontal Testamonials
“I’d been to a dentist for over 20 years and she said she was always ‘watching’ my gum disease. Then I was told I needed to see a Periodontist because it had gotten so bad. The Periodontist said he would have to use a scalpel to cut my gums, peel them off the teeth and bone, the suture it all back together.
I thought no way, there must be a better option. Then I found Dr. Kris Blodgett and Periolase. My gums are healthy again and Dr. Blodgett didn’t use a scalpel or sutures. I’m so happy I found Dr. Blodgett to treat my gum disease.”
-Stacey L., Beaverton, OR
“20 years ago when I was in my 30’s I was told I needed to see the Periodontist for some gum surgery. I went and had the surgery done which left me with longer teeth that had been sensitive since that time. I didn’t go back for years due to the fear I had after going in for that surgery. Finally after 20 years I got up the bravery to go find a new dentist and I found Dr. Kris Blodgett who provides a ‘No Cut, No Sew, No Fear’ technique to treating my gum disease. My mouth has never felt better and I had no pain at all after the Laser Periodontal Therapy.”
-William M., Seaside, OR
I had been seeing a dentist in North Portland for 7 years and they had always told me that I had gum disease, they had me do a series of deep cleanings, all for which I had to get numb, and yet it never got better. My gums still were bleeding.
When I came to Dr. Kris Blodgett he performed a genetic test that took less than two minutes. He was able to tell with this test that no matter how much a hygienist scraped my teeth it would not get rid of the bacteria that was infecting my gums. With the use of the Periolase Laser my gums are now back to good health and I feel much better knowing that when I floss my gums won’t bleed.”
-Mary Ann H., Scappose, OR

Frequently Asked Questions
Question: How long will it take to get a new smile?
Answer: It depends on the condition of your teeth and what you want to achieve. Some procedures, such as Sapphire!® whitening, can be completed in one visit. Other procedures, such as veneers or a full smile makeover can take several visits.
Make an appointment for a free consultation to discuss your options, and we’ll give you a better idea about what treatments will work best and what their expected time frames are.
Question: How long will my new smile last?
Answer: It depends on what procedures you have done and how well you take care of your teeth. Certain whitening procedures will require regular maintenance to keep up the white shade, and gum plastic surgery may have to be touched up after so many years. However, with good care, things like crowns and veneers can last for decades or longer.
Question: I’m on a budget. What are lower-cost options to improve my smile?
Answer: Even small changes can give you a brighter, more dazzling smile. Teeth whitening — either by traditional tray bleaching or in-office Sapphire! ® Whitening — is a popular, affordable option.
In addition, we can also improve your smile by replacing your mercury fillings with modern tooth-colored composite or porcelain materials. Not only are these restorations more attractive, they also make your teeth stronger. Dental insurance will often cover part or all of the cost of these procedures.
